Shamanic Rites of Initiation

The Munay-Ki are the nine rites of initiation to become a person of wisdom and power, accepting stewardship for all creation. These rites, given to ancient teachers by angelic beings, are passed on from teacher to student.

Debra Kruljac took four years in preparation for the Munay-Ki (part of her classroom environment was in the Amazon jungle and Andes Mountains) and she studied intensely with Don Isidro and other Peruvian Shamans. After learning many traditional ceremonies that have been passed down through generations, Debra is bringing these ancient healing techniques and teachings back to the community.

Munay-Ki Rites of initiation begin November 3 and 10 at the Center for Healing Arts, 916 Columbus Ave. Melbourne. For more information, call 321-733-7633.

Remembering Paul Newman (1925-2008): Actor, Philanthropist and Role Model

Legendary Hollywood movie star Paul Newman died of lung cancer on September 26, 2008 at his home in Westport, CT. An actor and philanthropist, Newman was a co-founder of Newman’s Own, a food company and for-profit corporation that sold items such as popcorn, salad dressing, fruit, snacks and more under the "Newman’s Own" label. Health food stores and Whole Foods carried the Newman’s Own line. Newman donated all post-tax profits and royalties from Newman’s Own to charity, his favorite one being The Hole in the Wall Gang, national camps Newman founded for children affected by life-threatening illnesses. "The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is part of his living legacy, and for that we remain forever grateful. His leadership and spirit can never be replaced, but he has left us with a clear course for the future," says the camp’s official Web site. As of May 2007, donations from Newman’s Own had exceeded $220 million, surprising Newman himself, who never believed he’d raise so much money and support for charity.
Newman’s Own started out small, but always had a big heart. In the early 80’s, Newman created his own salad dressing and gave it as gifts to friends, who wanted more. Founding Newman’s Own in 1982 with writer A.E. Hotchner, the company expanded, bringing all-natural food products to a wide audience long before it was fashionable. Newman was a great recycler, giving back to charity all the money he earned from the sale of Newman's Own products. Since his passing, one of his five daughters, Nell Newman, is expected to take over Newman’s Own and give back to the community the way her father did. Growing up in rural Connecticut, Nell’s famous parents introduced her to natural foods. Nell credits her father and mother—actress Joanne Woodward—with teaching her by to be socially responsible, politically involved, and philanthropic. The Oscar-winning star retired from acting in 2006 after a 50-year career that included films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1971), The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963) and Cool Hand Luke (1967). He will be greatly missed, and forever remembered for his talent and true devotion to charitable causes.

Women Find Walking Partners

WomenWalking is an online service that connects women who walk with walking partners.

"Women's lives are busy -- we work, run errands, take care of our families. Too often, we put aside the importance of our own health and well-being because we don’t want to walk alone," explains Joy Regan.

The WomenWalking website brings together women who may otherwise never meet- even while living in the same town. WomenWalking is a national website, available anywhere in the United States, offering women the possibility to expand their network of friends, and explore footpaths together.

The website offers multiple venues for communicating. You can join the "Community Voices" bulletin board for a national discussion, post a blog, list your profile and email using the inter-site email.
